I personally think it's good because I feel more connected to my friends throughout the week, but I can see the cons too. It's not usually a very deep connection, and a lot of people have so many "friends" that you know most of them are just random acquaintances who were requested out of boredom or accepted out of guilt. And there's definitely an evangelism campaign that rivals the Mac crowd, so I'm sure that must get pretty annoying if you've decided you're not interested, but keep getting bugged by people. Overall, though, I like it :)
Overall good. For me the biggest downside is I waste too much time on it. The biggest upside is I have a better idea of what is going on in people's lives. Not all of it, but learning snippets of the daily lives of people I care about but don't get to see often helps me in conversation later. If I'm friends with them on facebook, I can ask about if their kid is over the ear infections, or how the getaway weekend to Chicago was, or some other current detail in their lives. Before, I was always lost, going, "so how are, ummm, things, lately?"
mostly good, but the timesuck is an issue and the guilt factor, as mentioned above. you can put your own time limits on it and the ignore factor, so it's more at your discretion.
I think it's good, but it does take some willpower to not be on it too much. Now that I'm working again, I do a better job of not visiting all the time. I love that I've been able to reconnect with friends from grade school, high school, and even college, who I might not have been able to connect with otherwise.

Good. It keeps me in touch with people I want to keep in touch with -- and I can ignore those I don't.
